Government Clarifies Plans for Integrated Entertainment Complex Project

Casinos to Make Up Only 10% of Complex
Government spokesperson Jirayu Huangsap emphasized today that casinos will constitute just 10% of the activities within the proposed integrated entertainment complex. The majority of the complex will focus on non-gambling activities, including a concert arena, an amusement park, a waterpark, and convention and exhibition halls.

Council of State’s Role and Recommendations
Jirayu dismissed reports claiming that the Council of State had rejected the draft bill for the project, stating that they merely provided observations on amendments to improve the proposal. The draft bill will be formally submitted to the Council of State for review and adjustments before it is presented to the House of Representatives for debate.

Council of State Secretary-General Pakorn Nilpraphan clarified that the Council did not oppose the project outright. Instead, it recommended that the draft bill clearly define the project’s objectives to ensure the development of appropriate guidelines.

Projected Timeline and Impact
Deputy Finance Minister Julapun Amornvivat expects the draft bill to be submitted to parliament within two months. He expressed confidence that the project will boost tourist arrivals by up to 20% and increase their average spending.

Consideration of Religious Concerns
Justice Minister Tawee Sodsong stated that the Prachachart Party does not oppose the project but will discuss whether it aligns with the tenets of the Islamic faith, given its inclusion of gambling facilities.

The government remains optimistic that the proposed complex will serve as a significant driver for tourism and economic growth while addressing concerns through revisions and parliamentary debate.
