The much-anticipated rematch between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk has been officially confirmed to take place in October, as announced by the Saudi adviser overseeing the event. This follows their initial showdown scheduled for May 18 in Riyadh, which promises to crown the first undisputed heavyweight champion in over two decades.
In a recent interview with ESPN, Turki Al-Sheikh revealed that Fury vs Usyk 2 is slated for either October 12 or 13, pending all logistical arrangements. With both fighters granted a rematch clause, the boxing world eagerly awaits this epic sequel.
The rematch is expected to kick off the next Riyadh Season, which suggests it will likely be held in the capital city of Saudi Arabia. However, Saudi Arabia has also begun staging events abroad, indicating a potential global audience for this high-profile bout.
While Fury enters the ring as the WBC heavyweight champion, Usyk holds the WBA, WBO, IBF, and IBO belts, adding extra stakes to the rematch. Despite the undisputed titles being up for grabs in their first encounter, it’s speculated that Fury vs Usyk 2 may not be contested for these titles due to mandatory challengers awaiting their opportunity.
Both Fury and Usyk boast impeccable records, with the Briton recently overcoming Francis Ngannou in a contentious decision last October. Meanwhile, Usyk showcased his prowess by defeating Daniel Dubois in Poland last August.
Originally scheduled for February, the Fury vs Usyk rematch was postponed after Fury sustained a cut over his eye. However, fans can now look forward to this epic showdown in October, eagerly anticipating another chapter in the ongoing saga of heavyweight boxing.
