Foreigner caught allegedly stealing from convenience store

A 54-year-old American has been caught allegedly stealing from a convenience store in Chiang Mai province.

Gregory Paul Burke was reportedly captured on camera at the Muang Police Station grinning over the matter.

Staff at the store in Khotchasan Road, Chiang Mai, caught him allegedly stuffing two big bags of instant coffee, some chewing gum and a pack of sushi into his shirt and pant pockets.

He tried to walk out of the store but staff approached him and asked him to pay for the items. The man refused and police were contacted. He was taken into custody and charged with theft. A Channel 7 TV news report said the man was also carrying a knife.

Now police are checking to see if he is responsible for other thefts in the area as well.
