Five-year-old boy foils dog attack to protect friend

The boy scares away the dogs allowing his friend to run to safety

This was the moment a five-year-old boy foiled a potentially deadly dog attack – to protect his best friend.

The youngster, named Chandu, had been holding hands with schoolgirl Pooja, also five, as they wandered away from a family get-together and into an alley.

But moments later four blood-thirsty canines surrounded the youngsters just after midnight in Hyderabad, India.

Brave Chandu squared up to the ravenous beasts as they surrounded him – waving his hands to scare them away.

The lad’s clever actions allowed pooka to flee safely back down the street where her screams alerted family to come to help.

With the dog attack stifled and the deadly mutts having backed away, he then calmly backed away to rejoin Pooja.

CCTV footage from the home in the Anjaneya Nagar district of the city captured the dramatic bravery.

The homeowner said he was ‘’impressed” by the young lad’s bravery and shared the local broadcaster for others to see the boy’s heroics.

Wild dog attacks are a common problem in India with bites from strays killing more people in Mumbai alone in the last 20 years than the regions two deadly terror attacks.

Files from the Supreme Court, 434 people had died from rabies – a fatal viral infection which is almost 100% preventable – transmitted by dogs between 1994 and 2015.

Files from India’s Supreme Court revealed that more than 1.3 million people had been bitten by dogs in the city during the same period and at least 434 people had died from rabies.
