Five Dead, Dozens Injured in Tour Bus Crash on Highway 41
Surat Thani, Thailand – A chartered tour bus traveling from Betong, Yala, to Samut Sakhon crashed into a tree along Highway 41 in Chaiya District, Surat Thani, on Monday, leaving five people dead and dozens injured.
The accident occurred near Pa We Intersection when the bus veered off the road and overturned. According to police, the vehicle lost control on a curve before colliding with a tree.
Surat Thani Governor Teerut Supaviboonphon immediately directed emergency response teams to the scene. Rescue workers found approximately 30 passengers, many of them elderly, trapped inside the wreckage. Twelve victims were rushed to Chaiya Hospital, while 18 others were taken to Tha Chang Hospital for treatment. Tragically, five individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.
The bus driver, 47-year-old Suthep, told police that the bus slid on the curve and he lost control moments before the crash. Both the driver and his assistant have been detained for questioning at Chaiya Police Station as authorities investigate the cause of the accident.
Officials have pledged to determine the exact circumstances leading to the crash and to ensure all injured passengers receive proper medical attention. Legal proceedings will follow based on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
