Fewer people breaking the curfew

curfew

There has been a decrease of curfew breakers after some businesses are now allowed to reopen along with moving the national curfew time to 23.00-4.00.

The Royal Thai Police reported on 25 May 2020 the number of people violating the emergency decree that is currently in place. From 23.00 on the 24th to 4.00 on the 25th there have been only 234 cases of people breaking the national curfew.

Police searched 22,534 individuals and 17,123 vehicles of those who broke the curfew. 234 were arrested. Out of this number 229 people were outside during the lockdown without valid reasonings including driving around, on their way back home from work, and other reasons. While 5 cases were arrested inside their homes while doing activities that can risk spreading the virus, 4 were caught gambling, and 1 was caught while using illegal drugs.

These top 3 provinces with the highest number of arrests include Pathumthani at 24 arrests, Chonburi at 17 arrests, and Phatthalung at 16 arrests. Those who violate the emergency decree face a punishment of up to 2 years imprisonment, a fine not exceeding 40,000 THB or both. Phuket comes in at 4th place with 14 arrests, Lopburi follows with 13 arrests. Thailand’s capital is at 6th place with 12 arrests, this is a good improvement as Bangkok usually sits at the top 3 for most curfew breakers.

There are 27 provinces with no curfew breakers on the night of 24th, 1. Prajinburi, Nonthaburi, Buriram, Petchburi, Chai Nat, Surin, Cha Choeng Sao, Krabi, Kalasin, Nakhon Nayok, Chanthaburi, Loei, Phetchabun, Udon Thani, Ranong, Uttaradit, Angthong, Nakorn Panom, Khon Kaen, Yasothon, Nan, Mahasarakham, Lampang, Nong Bua Lamphu, Sakon Nakhon, Mae Hong Son, and Phayao. The improvement number gives good hope that Thailand is on its way to a Covid-19 free nation with the people’s help in limiting the spread of the virus.
