The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) tested more than 16 tonnes of narcotics – including 12 tonnes of methamphetamine pills – on Tuesday before the drugs get destroyed.
The test was conducted at FDA’s storage facility of evidence for drug crimes before they will be set afire as part of the 49th Destruction of Confiscated Narcotics on Wednesday in Ayutthaya’s Bang Pa-in Industrial Estate.
The event will be held to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The 16.5 tonnes of narcotics – reportedly worth Bt20 million in combined street value – were confiscated in 6,910 drug-suppression operations. They include 12.4 tonnes of methamphetamine pills, 3.4 tonnes of crystal meth or “ice” and 143kg of heroin.
