Explosions create fear, citizens thought tourist’s bag was a bomb

There were at least 6 bombs explosions in Bangkok on the 2nd of this month (2 August 2019). The first 2 bombs went off around 8.30 to 9 am, right when people are rushing to work near the exit of Chong Nonsi BTS Station.

There were also explosions by the government complex within the same day.  Locals can report suspicious items for the bomb squad, but it is no surprise that some items might be placed in random locations to stir Bangkokians and raise the level of fear. It is best to be aware of your surroundings and the people around you at all times.

At 4.47 pm the Rama 9 Radio Station was notified by citizens of a suspicious backpack left alone at a Bus Stop in front of Phaholyothin 44, Chatuchak area near the RTA Chemical Department and the Royal Forest Department.

Turns out at 5 pm the suspicious backpack was declared safe. A tourist had forgotten the backpack at the bus stop while traveling through Bangkok, the tourist will return to pick it up later. There currently have been reports of 9 areas with suspicious objects in Bangkok, every report that comes in will be inspected immediately by the related officials. There is still no information to who or what group are placing these explosives in Bangkok and the reasoning’s behind the scare.

Locals must also beware of fake news that is intended to stir emotions and cause high levels of fear. One of these fake news is that the Internal Security Operations Command has announced high-risk areas that include Siam Square, Victory Monument, Ratchaprasong Intersection, All of the Sky Train Stations, and more. Make sure to carefully read the news to separate fake information.

There has been increased security throughout important landmarks in Bangkok, but no high-risk areas have yet to be announced for the people to avoid.
