Monsoon style downpours set to hit Bangkok

Thailand, in particular Bangkok and it’s neighbouring provinces, are preparing for more huge downpours from today, the Meteorological Department said on September 4th.

The monsoon style rain will not only hit Bangkok too, but also several provinces in the North, Northeast, East, and South, basically just about covering the whole of Thailand

Reports said that more than 40% of areas will face increased rainfalls over the next 24 hours, with heavy rains in the North, Northeast, East and South.

Flooding is obviously a huge problem already in Thailand and with the increased prospect of more rainfall, the authorities have warned people to prepare themselves for the worst.

Meanwhile the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration also warned Chao Phraya riverside residents in 10 districts along the river and outside it’s floodwalls of rising water levels from today until September 8 due to high tide period.

The high tide will coincide with rising level of water discharged from the Chao Phraya dam in Chai Nat province downstream to the Chao Phraya river from Ang Thong downward to Ayutthaya and Pathum Thani during September.

It said the water levels will be 10-15 centimetres higher.

The 10 districts are Bang Sue, Dusit, Phra Nakhon, Samphanthawong, Bang Kolaem, Yannawa, Klong Toey, Bangkok Noi, Klongsarn, and Ratburana.

Residents were told to brace for possible flooding during September 4-8 and to move their belongings to higher ground.
