Elderly Canadian Woman Found Dead on Phuket Beach Identified
Authorities have identified the body of an 80-year-old Canadian woman discovered on Phuket’s Kata Beach as Karen Pai. An autopsy confirmed that she died from heatstroke, with no indications of foul play.
Woman Found Unresponsive on Beach
Pai, who had checked into the Kata Palm Resort Hotel on March 3, was traveling alone and scheduled to check out on March 6.
At 10:30 AM on Wednesday, beachgoers noticed her lying face down on the sand. When she remained motionless until 1:20 PM, with bruises developing on her body, authorities were alerted.
Cause of Death Confirmed as Heatstroke
A medical examination at Vachira Phuket Hospital determined that she had likely died from hyperthermia (heatstroke), with no signs of physical harm or foul play. It was estimated that she had been deceased for around four hours before being examined.
Last Known Movements
Security footage showed Pai leaving her hotel room at 10:23 AM, asking staff for directions to the beach. She then departed the hotel, appearing in normal health.
Authorities urge visitors, especially elderly travelers, to take precautions against extreme heat while spending time outdoors in Phuket.
