Education Officials Mandate Renovation of Open-Plan Kindergarten Bathrooms in Lampang
Lampang school officials have been ordered to renovate newly modified kindergarten bathrooms after a wave of social media criticism regarding the lack of privacy doors and partitions.
The directive, issued on Monday by Acting Lt. Thanu Wongjinda, Secretary-General of the Basic Education Commission, emphasized the importance of respecting children’s privacy and adhering to hygiene standards.
“Children’s privacy rights must be respected, regardless of their age,” Lt. Thanu stated, mandating immediate action to restore the bathrooms to meet acceptable standards.
The controversy began after images of the open-plan bathrooms surfaced online, prompting widespread backlash and raising concerns about student dignity and safety. Parents and netizens called the design inappropriate, urging authorities to take swift corrective measures.
School officials have confirmed they are cooperating with the directive and will prioritize the necessary renovations. This incident has reignited discussions about the importance of child-friendly infrastructure in educational institutions, ensuring that facilities align with developmental needs and societal norms.
