Drunk Myanmar Man Crashes into Motorcycle Near Pattaya, Killing One and Injuring Another Before Fleeing
PATTAYA – A drunk driver struck a motorcycle on Sukhumvit Road near Pattaya on March 29, 2025, killing one woman and injuring another before fleeing the scene. The suspect, a 39-year-old Myanmar national, was later apprehended by police.
Fatal Hit-and-Run on Sukhumvit Road
At 9:00 PM, emergency responders from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Unit arrived at the crash site in front of Ban Rong Po gas station, heading toward Bangkok.
Authorities found a badly damaged black Honda PCX motorcycle, registered in Bangkok. Nearby, they discovered Ms. Warunee Yimsing, 39, critically injured. Despite CPR efforts, she succumbed to her injuries. The second victim, Ms. Thipwawan Boonkhong, 36, suffered a head injury and multiple abrasions. She was stabilized before being rushed to a local hospital.
Suspect Flees, but Good Samaritans Help Locate Him
Police recovered evidence at the scene, including fragments of a front bumper and a license plate belonging to the suspect’s vehicle.
Following a tip, officers found a bronze Toyota Vigo pickup truck abandoned about one kilometer away. The front of the truck was severely damaged, and an opened bottle of white liquor was discovered inside.
Shortly after, residents in Soi Banglamung 8 spotted a suspicious man hiding in the bushes. Identified only as Mr. Min, a 39-year-old Myanmar national, he confessed to driving the pickup truck and drinking alcohol before the crash. He admitted to fleeing out of panic and claimed he didn’t see the motorcycle ahead.
Eyewitness Account & Legal Proceedings
The survivor, Ms. Thipwawan, stated that she and her girlfriend were riding along Sukhumvit Road when they were suddenly hit from behind, causing them to be thrown off their motorcycle. The pickup driver sped away without stopping.
Police detained Mr. Min, conducted a blood alcohol test, and reviewed CCTV footage from the area. The suspect is now in custody and will face legal proceedings as the investigation continues.
