The fear of every tiny problem with the vehicle being blamed on you when you return it is ever present, while the potential consequences of even the most minor of incidents hang over you every moment that you drive.

If you’re the sort of person who immediately forgets how to drive under the pressure of a rental car, then take some solace in the fact that you aren’t the worst driver in the world.

That place, as this footage shows, is taken permanently by the driver of this Ferrari 458, who took one of the most expensive cars that one could ever hope to hire and then crashed it into oncoming traffic.

What’s worse is that she’d picked up the $500,000 dollar vehicle just minutes before.

The woman was driving in the coastal Chinese city of Wenling, around 500 kilometres south of Shanghai when she lost control of the car and collided with a nearby BMW, which then caused her to break through the central reservation and subsequently to crash into the traffic coming in the opposite direction.

That’s pretty bad, but it gets even worse. Not only was it all filmed, the woman herself was filmed just moments before while driving the vehicle and complimenting herself on the car.

“First time driving a Ferrari. This truly is the most amazing feeling,” she said the woman in a separate video, taken shortly before totalling half a million dollars worth of car.

Thankfully she was not seriously hurt in the crash – well, aside from her pride – and managed to walk away.

The car itself was badly damaged, despite the crash appearing to take place at a relatively sedate pace. Photos from the aftermath show the airbags deployed and the front wheel hanging off, as well as a knackered bumper and destroyed bonnet.

The car had been imported to China at enormous expense, with the rental company claiming that it cost them $500,000 to bring the Italian sports car to Wenling.

It is not yet known if the woman was insured against incidents such as this occurring, but with the wreckage that was caused in her wake, you have to hope that she was.

See – I told you that it’d make you feel better about your crap driving.
