Covid-19 Quarantine reduced to 10 days in the near future

The Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul reported after a meeting with the Department of Disease Control (DDC) from the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) that the meeting has approved the draft of the new National Quarantine Policy. Currently, the quarantine policies for both Thais returning from abroad and foreigners entering Thailand during this time has been done according to the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration announcements.

The new draft is to help push the economic recovery for the people’s lives in the long run. The draft covers the quarantine measures and locations for the quarantine centers that can prevent the virus from entering the nation based on safety standards. Anutin also stated that the draft will help with quarantine management, both at provincial and national levels. Officials from different sectors will have better communication with data management. Those who break quarantine rules will face punishments.

One of the main highlights of the meeting is to reduce the quarantine period from 14 days to 10 days. The DDC will lay down measures and rules with strict enforcement that will provide comfort to all parties. After the 10 day period, the remaining 4 days will be monitored along with rules to be followed, including social distancing, avoiding crowded areas, and to wear a mask at all times.

The National Quarantine Policy supports the Covid-19 situation in the long run. There will be 3 main principles including 1. To establish a quarantine system and quarantine centers to prevent the spread of the virus with a safe standard. 2. To develop the management of the quarantine system and quarantine centers both at provincial and national levels. Both levels must be linked under the care of the DDC, the provincial Communicable Disease Committee, and the Bangkok Communicable Disease Committee.
