Chonburi to Develop AI Inquiry Officers for Police Interactions
CHONBURI, Thailand – March 11, 2025 – In a move to modernize law enforcement, Provincial Police Region 2 has partnered with King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) and Amata Facility Services to develop AI-powered inquiry officers. Announced on March 10, the collaboration marks a significant step in integrating artificial intelligence into police operations across eastern and northeastern Thailand.
This initiative aligns with Thailand’s National AI Strategy (2022–2027), which promotes the use of advanced technology in public services. While specific details on implementation remain limited, officials expect the project to enhance policing efficiency, with further updates anticipated as development progresses.
Transforming Police Operations with AI
The introduction of AI inquiry officers could revolutionize law enforcement by handling routine administrative tasks, including:
- Logging complaints
- Analyzing initial statements
- Routing cases to the appropriate units
By automating these processes, AI could reduce response times, minimize human errors, and free up officers to focus on fieldwork and complex investigations—especially in resource-constrained urban and rural areas.
Potential applications include AI-powered kiosks where citizens can:
- Pay traffic fines
- Ask basic law enforcement questions
- Check the status of non-urgent police reports
Region 2: A Key Testing Ground
Provincial Police Region 2 oversees Thailand’s eastern provinces, including Chonburi (home to Pattaya), Rayong, and Chanthaburi, among others. The region’s mix of urban hubs and rural communities presents an ideal testing ground for AI-driven policing solutions.
As this initiative unfolds, law enforcement officials and technology partners will refine the system’s capabilities, ensuring that AI enhances both efficiency and public trust in policing.
