Chinese embassy delegation inspects lifeguards at Patong Beach

A non smiling delegation from the Chinese embassy in Bangkok arrived in Phuket today (May 10) to inspect the lifeguards at Patong Beach and raise safety and other issues with provincial officials.
“They visited us on Patong Beach, to meet our 26 lifeguards and our 26 volunteers,” Somprasong Saengchat of the Phuket Lifeguard Service (PLS), who serves as the chief lifeguard at Patong Beach, told The Phuket News.
“We talked about our duty working as lifeguards, our company (PLS), our lifesaving experience, dangerous areas for people to swim, and problems there have been in hiring us, including problems with the budget being provided,” Mr Somprasong explained.
“He also asked me to help Chinese tourists much as we can, and he said thank you for the lives we have already saved,” he added.
Mr Somprasong expressed his gratitude to the people he works with as lifeguards.
“I really want to say thank you to all 26 lifeguards and the volunteers who support the Phuket Lifeguard Service team on the beach.
“They help us so much to look after tourists. Tourists need lifeguards to save their lives,” Mr Somprasong said.
After the inspection at Patong Beach this morning, the Chinese delegation spent this afternoon at a meeting in Phuket with top-ranking provincial officials in Phuket Town to discuss safety and other issues directly concerning Chinese nationals. SB – EP
