Chinese Dine-and-Dash Gang Strikes Restaurants in Chonburi
A group of Chinese diners has been troubling restaurant owners in the Bo Win area of Chonburi’s Si Racha district, with their latest act taking place at a local pork barbecue restaurant, where they fled without paying their bill.
Restaurant owner Yuthanan Panphrom shared details of the incident, explaining that four Chinese men carried out the scheme on Saturday evening. The first three arrived at the restaurant around 7:30 PM, followed by a fourth man who joined them 30 minutes later in a white car. The group enjoyed their meal until 8:27 PM before making their escape.
When the restaurant staff presented the bill of 1,082 baht, the group crumpled it and dropped it under the table while the staff were occupied. Despite being reminded to settle their payment, the men assured the staff they would pay later—only to flee the restaurant moments later in their vehicle.
Yuthanan mentioned that while some customers accidentally leave without paying, they usually contact the restaurant after seeing posts on social media. However, he noted that this particular group had no intention of paying. He also pointed out that other restaurant owners in the area have reported similar incidents.
He urged fellow business operators to stay cautious when dealing with Chinese customers, emphasizing that while many are honest, some take advantage of local establishments.
