Centre for Covid-19 Situation update

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration on Sunday reported 4,528 new cases and 24 deaths over a 24-hour period

Of the total, 2,599 were contracted locally, 1,202 were found during proactive testing, and 1,902 were prison inmates nationwide.

Meanwhile, 27 people who had travelled from abroad tested positive; three were overseas travellers in quarantine facilities and 24 were arrested on the Cambodia-Thailand border while crossing over illegally.

Bangkok and Phetchburi provinces led the list with most cases at 754 each, followed by Samut Prakan 264, Nonthaburi 139, and Chonburi 90.

Meanwhile, 2,933 patients have recovered and been discharged in the last 24 hours.

As of Sunday, the number of confirmed cases in Thailand had risen to 154,307.

So far, 105,244 have recovered and been discharged, 48,051 patients are still in hospitals (1,209 in severe condition, 389 on ventilators), and 1,012 have died.

According to Worldometer, as of 11am on Sunday, the number of confirmed cases globally had risen to 170 million (up by 490,155), 152.59 million of whom have recovered, 15.5 million are active cases (92,098 in severe condition) and 3.55 million have died (up by 10,830).

Thailand ranks 83rd on the global list of most cases, which is topped by the US with 34 million, followed by India 27.89 million, Brazil 16.47 million, France 5.65 million and Turkey 5.24 million.

Meanwhile, 37,904 people were given their first Covid-19 shot in the last 24 hours, while 6,301 people were given their second shot, bringing the total number of Covid-19 vaccine doses administered in Thailand to 3,548,330.
