Casino Bill Faces Legal Challenge from Civil Society Groups

Criticism Over Cabinet’s Swift Approval
The cabinet’s approval of the bill on Thursday—just a day after the Prime Minister survived a no-confidence debate—has drawn criticism. Opponents claim the government used the debate as a distraction before rushing through the decision.
The network of civil society groups argues that the approval process ignored public opposition, concerns from MPs, and expert recommendations, despite earlier assurances that the issue would undergo careful review.
Key Concerns Raised
The coalition highlighted several issues with the bill, including:

The group called on the Senate to organize more public hearings to ensure all stakeholders can voice their concerns before a final decision is made.
Additionally, they accused the government of rushing parliamentary deliberation, pushing for the House of Representatives to review the bill before April 11, when the session ends—despite unresolved legal loopholes.
“We will use every legal channel to oppose this bill and advocate for ethical and sustainable economic policies,” the statement declared.
