Canadian Man Found Dead in Parked Car
A Canadian man was discovered dead inside a locked car at the entrance of Nui Beach in Muang district on Monday morning. A letter outlining his final wishes was found alongside him, according to local police.
The tragic discovery was reported around 9:15 AM, prompting officers from Karon Police Station, led by Pol Col Khunnadet Na Nongkhai, to respond along with forensic experts. Upon unlocking the vehicle, they found the body of Ian Macaulay, a 53-year-old Canadian from Montreal.
Inside the car, authorities found a letter dated February 9, addressed to a person named Naz. In it, Macaulay detailed his struggles with health issues and financial burdens affecting his family. Among his final wishes, he requested a single day of religious rites and for his ashes to be scattered in the Andaman Sea off Kamala Beach.
Police revealed that Macaulay was operating an online accommodation platform, and preliminary investigations suggest that health and business difficulties may have contributed to his apparent suicide.
An autopsy is being conducted at Vachira Phuket Hospital to determine the exact cause of death. The Canadian consulate-general in Phuket has been notified, and his family overseas has been contacted. Authorities continue their investigation into the case.
