The Cabinet has endorsed a new regulation under the 2003 Child Protection Act prohibiting e-cigarettes, electronic hookahs, and other psychoactive substances among students. The move, proposed by the Ministry of Education, seeks to address the health and behavioral risks posed by these products.
Deputy Government Spokesperson Karom Polpornklang announced the policy, which introduces penalties for violations, including verbal warnings, written agreements, behavioral point deductions, and corrective activities aimed at modifying behavior.
Minister of Education Pol. Gen. Permpoon Chidchob emphasized that while the ministry itself cannot confiscate these items, relevant agencies will work to block their distribution, particularly those entering the country through informal channels. Law enforcement will handle confiscations and enforcement where necessary.
This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding students from emerging health threats and fostering a secure, supportive educational environment.
