BYD has unveiled a revolutionary electric motor achieving a remarkable peak speed of 30,511 RPM, marking a significant advancement in the electric vehicle (EV) sector. This announcement follows the introduction of their upgraded electric vehicle platform designed to address charging times, aiming to make it as quick as refueling a gas vehicle with a 1000-volt architecture.
The impressive performance of the new motor is attributed to several innovative features:
- High-Energy Magnets: Utilization of N50EH magnets enhances magnetic performance by 18% and reduces current losses by 44%.
- Ultra-Thin Silicon Steel Sheets: The use of 0.2mm sheets minimizes iron loss, improving overall efficiency.
- Optimized Winding Design: A 10-layer short-distance winding reduces copper loss by 21%.
- Improved Balance Accuracy: Achieving dynamic balance accuracy within 50 mg surpasses the industry standard of 100 mg, resulting in smoother operation.
- Advanced Cooling System: BYD’s 1500V silicon carbide (SiC) power module integrates direct refrigerant cooling technology for efficient heat management.
In an unexpected turn, BYD plans to incorporate this high-performance motor into its mid-range Han L sedan and Tang L SUV. Performance tests reveal impressive acceleration capabilities, including:
- Han L: 0 to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds; 100 km/h to 200 km/h in 4.74 seconds.
- Tang L: 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds; 100 km/h to 200 km/h in 6.19 seconds.
The newly designed Super e-Platform, supporting both the Han L and Tang L models, represents BYD’s next-generation pure electric technology. This platform has been extensively upgraded in critical areas such as motors, batteries, and electronic control, facilitating a deeper integration of electrification and enabling megawatt-level fast charging capabilities.
