Ashley’s parent’s were holidaying in Spain when they received the harrowing call about their son’s welfare.

The 36-year-olds mum, Julie Shorley, raced to the Thai Island to be at her sons bedside and was completely overwhelmed at the sight of her son, that she broke into tears.

Her son was flown to the intensive care unit at Bumrungrad Hospital, in Bangkok.

Experts had said that Ashley’s condition was ‘touch and go’ and he underwent a five-hour operation to drain fluid from his lungs.

Ashley’s fearful father, Christopher from Lancashire, explained: “Leading up to the operation it was touch and go.

“He has massive scars on his back, his lungs were covered in plasma and they could not expand.

“He has lost five stone and looks so thin.

Reflecting back on his wife Julie’s first image of her son, she saw Ashley rigged up to numerous machines, with drips and drains everywhere.

Christopher continued: “It has been horrendous, nobody wants to see their son hooked up on so many machines.

“She got there and called me in tears.”

Ashley’s mum Julie, started hysterically crying after her son muttered the words “Mum I am dying here.”
