British Nationals Arrested in Violent Debt Collection Case
Bangkok, Thailand – Thai police are investigating a shocking debt collection incident involving two British nationals accused of attacking an Italian businessman at a luxury condominium in Bangkok. The case has gained international attention, particularly after one of the suspects claimed she faces up to 20 years in prison and £24,000 in legal fees, as reported by the British tabloid Daily Mail.
Investigators from Thonglor Police Station confirmed the arrests of Rachel, 56, and Jon, 56, both British citizens, for allegedly assaulting Stefano, 47, an Italian national, at his residence in Soi Promchit, Klongton Nuea, Wattana district, on November 13, 2024. Authorities recovered three mobile phones—one OnePlus and two Samsung—as evidence.
The pair face multiple charges, including home invasion, robbery, attempted robbery, unlawful detention, assault, and extortion. Police revealed that Rachel, who owns a recruitment agency, claimed Stefano owed her company £27,743.40 for services rendered in September 2024, including accommodation relocation assistance.
After unsuccessful payment demands, Rachel and Jon allegedly traveled to Thailand in November to confront Stefano. On November 13 at approximately 9:01 a.m., they reportedly gained access to Stefano’s condo using a keycard obtained from his private nurse. Inside, they allegedly assaulted him, seized seven keycards, including access to another property, and stole his three mobile phones.
When Stefano attempted to escape, Jon reportedly threw him to the ground, inflicting additional injuries. The suspects then tried to tie him up with cables before coercing him into initiating an international bank transfer of £24,702 to Rachel’s overseas account.
After the assailants left, Stefano sought medical treatment at Samitivej Hospital and managed to freeze the bank transfer before it was completed. He later filed a formal complaint with Thonglor Police, demanding full prosecution.
Thai authorities have assured a fair and thorough investigation for all parties involved as the case continues to unfold.
