British Man Arrested in Thailand for Alleged Murder of Thai Wife in 2004

A 62-year-old British man, David Stuart Armitage, was arrested in Kanchanaburi province for quick repatriation to the UK, where he is suspected of murdering his Thai wife, Lamduan Seekanya, over two decades ago.

Immigration police, in coordination with the Department of Special Investigation, apprehended Armitage on Thursday afternoon at a residence in Muang district, Kanchanaburi. Authorities revoked his stay in Thailand to expedite the repatriation process. He is currently held at the Immigration Bureau in Bangkok, awaiting deportation.

The case dates back to September 20, 2004, when Lamduan’s body was found in a stream in the Yorkshire Dales, near Pen-y-ghent, about 65 kilometers northwest of Leeds. Discovered by hikers, her body was face-down in the water, wearing only socks and jeans, with a torn bra hanging from her left arm and a T-shirt nearby. Her shoes were never recovered.

The local community in Horton-in-Ribblesdale buried her in their churchyard, and she became known as “The Lady of the Hills.”

In 2016, a cold case review, aided by advancements in forensic technology, led British authorities to conclude she had been murdered. The case gained momentum in 2019 when Lamduan’s parents in Udon Thani recognized her from a BBC report on the mysterious death. DNA testing confirmed the body was their daughter’s.

Lamduan met Armitage in Chiang Mai while he was teaching English. The couple married in Thailand and moved to Britain in 1991, where they lived in northern England until her untimely death.

Armitage’s arrest marks a significant step in seeking justice for Lamduan after nearly two decades.
