British Boxing Champ Sentenced to Six Years After Thailand Drug Bust

A former British boxing champion who evaded authorities across three continents has been sentenced to six years in prison after being caught supplying drugs.

Lennox Clarke, a former British and Commonwealth super-middleweight titleholder from Stourbridge, West Midlands, was caught red-handed supplying narcotics to a known dealer, Ben Goff, in 2023. Despite being under police surveillance, Clarke managed to escape capture and embarked on an international fugitive run.

Authorities tracked Clarke’s movements as he fled through Wales, Ireland, Thailand, and Mexico, attempting to stay ahead of law enforcement. However, after months on the run, he eventually returned to the UK, where he was arrested.

Clarke’s boxing career began in 2013 with a second-round technical knockout victory. He quickly rose through the ranks, securing multiple titles, including the IBO Continental super-middleweight belt. After retiring in 2022 with 20 wins, one draw, and two losses, he found himself entangled in the drug trade once again, despite a previous conviction for supplying Class B drugs in 2012.

During sentencing, the judge criticized Clarke for failing to learn from past mistakes, handing him six years and four months in prison. However, he will serve a reduced sentence due to 317 days already spent under curfew.

Detective Inspector Phillips, who led the investigation, revealed that Clarke was first linked to drug activity through surveillance on Goff. “After Goff’s arrest, Clarke went on the run, initially hiding in hotels before fleeing abroad,” Phillips said. He added that he hopes Clarke’s sentencing reassures the community and encourages people to report drug-related crimes.
