Bolt Driver Admits to Fabricating Viral Story to Gain Attention, Issues Apology

A Thai Bolt driver has apologized after admitting to fabricating a heartwarming story about helping an intoxicated passenger, which he shared on social media in an apparent bid for admiration and praise.

Last week, a Facebook user under the name “Mook Kanokwan” posted a touching tale in a group called “Bolt Driver Thailand Motorcycle (Only).” The story involved herself and a Bolt driver, later identified as Chokchai Wailew. According to the post, the woman claimed she had been heavily intoxicated and booked a Bolt ride to return home. She praised the driver for his kindness, saying he stopped at a convenience store to buy her a refreshing towel, advised her not to travel alone while drunk, and delivered a heartfelt message upon arrival at her condominium:
“Don’t forget to love yourself, OK?”

The post concluded with the woman saying she had forgotten to pay the fare and hoped to thank the driver personally.

The post quickly gained traction, with many in the group praising Chokchai for his supposed kindness. However, some users found the story suspicious, particularly the claim that the driver had forgotten to collect the fare.

Further investigation by netizens revealed that the account of “Mook Kanokwan” was likely connected to Chokchai himself. The account’s URL referenced the name “Mook Wailew,” and a history of name changes further pointed to Chokchai being behind the post.

Adding to the controversy, the Facebook page Esor News discovered that Chokchai had a history of fraudulent behavior and had even been blacklisted.

Facing mounting evidence, Chokchai admitted to fabricating the story. Speaking to Channel 8, he explained that his goal was to gain attention, praise, and encouragement from social media users.

“I made a mistake,” he said. “I just wanted some recognition, but I never thought it would escalate like this. I apologize for my actions and ask the public to stop digging into my past or harassing my family.”

The confession has sparked widespread criticism on social media, with many condemning Chokchai’s actions as manipulative and deceitful. Others expressed disappointment in his attempt to portray himself as a hero through dishonest means.

While Chokchai has apologized, the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of authenticity and integrity in social media interactions. The story also highlights how quickly false narratives can spread online, impacting public perception before the truth comes to light.
