The Berlin fan zone was temporarily closed and evacuated after police discovered a suspicious package.
Local sources report that one man has been arrested in connection with the incident, and the fan zone is expected to reopen shortly.
Berlin Police issued a statement on X, saying, “A suspicious object was found in the entrance area on Scheidemannstrasse #Fanzone. This area is currently not available to fans. Our colleagues are checking the object.”
Around 10,000 people are anticipated to watch the Euro 2024 opener between Germany and Scotland inside the fan zone tonight.
While the opening match will take place in Munich, approximately six hours away, heightened security measures are likely to be implemented.
Local authorities have indicated that only some sections of the fan park are affected, and one of the four entrances remains open for use.
