Belgian Man Dies in Kitesurfing Accident at Pranburi’s Khao Kalok
A tragic kitesurfing accident claimed the life of a 55-year-old Belgian man, Brendan, off the coast of Pranburi in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, southern Thailand. The incident occurred near Khao Kalok (Skull Mountain), a prominent landmark within the Thao Kosa Forest Park.
According to reports, Brendan was swept by strong waves into the rocky terrain of Khao Kalok, where he became trapped in a crevice. Rescue teams recovered his body after an extensive search operation hindered by rough sea conditions.
Pak Nam Pranburi Police Station was alerted to the accident and dispatched rescue teams to locate the missing kitesurfer. Initial efforts were hampered as turbulent seas made the use of boats and jet skis impossible. Instead, authorities deployed a drone to survey the area around the mountain. The drone eventually located Brendan’s body, which was found face down in a crevice approximately 3-4 meters deep.
Brendan’s body had been in the same position for several hours before rescue teams were able to access the site safely. Once the sea calmed, a rubber boat was used to retrieve him.
The victim’s Thai girlfriend and Belgian mother, who had anxiously awaited updates on the rescue operation, were overcome with grief upon seeing his body. Friends and family members gathered at the scene to pay their respects.
The tragic accident highlights the risks associated with kitesurfing in challenging sea conditions. Local authorities have urged visitors to exercise caution and monitor weather conditions before engaging in water sports.
