Amid the holiday celebrations, a Belgian man was left seriously injured following a brutal knife attack and robbery by a group of six thieves in Pattaya earlier today, December 25. The attack occurred as the victim was returning from a Christmas party.
Phonthip, a 38-year-old Thai woman, reported the incident to officers from the Mueang Pattaya Police Station. She found the foreign man, bleeding profusely, seeking help at the entrance of a village in Pattaya’s Banglamung district. Authorities are investigating the case as they work to identify the assailants and bring them to justice.
The victim has been identified as 80-year-old Belgian national Richard Ander M. Van Bogaert. He suffered a severe head injury, leading police to summon a rescue team to provide first aid before he was urgently transported to a hospital for further treatment.
Mr. Van Bogaert informed the authorities that his wallet, containing 7,000 baht in cash, was stolen by six thieves armed with knives. During the attack, the assailants inflicted injuries that left him incapacitated. Desperate for help, the Belgian man crawled along the street until he reached the home of a Thai woman who assisted him by notifying the police. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the culprits.
