At least 10 people were shot outside a Queens nightclub on Wednesday night when three to four gunmen opened fire on a group gathered outside during a private event, according to the New York City Police Department.
The incident occurred outside the Amazura nightclub in Jamaica, resulting in injuries to six females and four males, all of whom are expected to survive, police reported. Authorities are looking into whether the shooting is gang-related, but have confirmed there is no terrorism link.
Investigators revealed that numerous 911 calls were received shortly after 11 p.m. reporting gunfire at the club, which was at full capacity with roughly 90 people inside and about 15 others waiting to enter. Reports indicate that the shooters approached the gathering outside and opened fire, discharging about 30 rounds.
No arrests have been made, and NYPD Chief of Transportation Philip Rivera addressed the media, stating, “There’s zero tolerance for these senseless shootings. These horrible acts of violence on our streets will not go unpunished.”
This incident follows another tragic event on New Year’s Day when a truck was driven into a crowd in New Orleans, resulting in 15 deaths and numerous injuries. The individual responsible for that act was killed in a shootout with police at the scene.
