Army’s troops rehearse drawing of chariots for the royal funeral
A total of 441 troops from the army’s Department of Ordnance on Thursday (Aug 31) rehearsed the hauling of chariots to be used in a procession for the royal funeral of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej on October 26.

The Ordnance Department has been assigned to provide its personnel to draw vehicles and chariots, especially Phra Maha Pichai Ratcharot, or the greatest chariot, that will carry the royal urn. During the past three months, the department has carried out the assignments. It has selected 441 troops for the following tasks–79 for the leading chariot, 222 for the greatest chariot or Phra Maha Pichai Ratcharot, and 110 for the Kren Bandai Nak, a structure with mechanisms for placing and moving up and down the royal urn. The rehearsal on Thursday was the last for the Department of Ordnance. After this the troops will join the rehearsals of the entire procession which will begin in September at the 11th Infantry Regiment and the area for the royal cremation. Lt Gen Arvut Emwong, commander of the department, inspected the rehearsal at a small airstrip of the air force at Thung Si Kan in Bangkok. Thai PBS
