While on his Songkran break and visiting his family in the southern province of Pattani, an army officer tragically lost his life when insurgents attacked him in front of his family home in Panare district on Saturday.
Sgt-Maj (first class) Ruslan Doloh, a member of the 4th special force regiment based in Phitsanuloke province, was the victim of this senseless act. The regiment expressed its condolences to his family in a heartfelt Facebook post.
According to the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) of the Fourth Region’s Forward Command, the 37-year-old Ruslan had refereed a soccer match in Panare’s municipal area earlier that afternoon. Upon returning home on his motorcycle after the match, he was ambushed by insurgents who emerged from their hiding place in the compound and opened fire, fatally injuring him on the spot.
In the aftermath of the attack, police discovered several spent 9mm and 7.62mm shells at the scene.
