In preparation for the arrival of visitors from Taiwan and India without a visa, the government has established a command center. This policy will take effect on Friday.
As the peak travel season draws near, a number of agencies have been directed to make whatever contribution they can to lessen the anticipated congestion at Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi airports.
Following the government’s policy of allowing Indian and Taiwanese visitors to come and remain without a visa for 30 days, Transport Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit said he has directed state agencies to make arrangements to ensure ease of travel and safety for foreign tourists.
According to him, in order to expedite the procedure and avoid crowding, the Airports of Thailand (AOT) has been directed to collaborate closely with a number of organizations, including immigration authorities.
“The command center has been set up to coordinate the efforts of all airport service providers in ensuring smooth travel for visitors, especially at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports,” he stated.
Mr. Suriya stated that in preparation for an increase in tourists, he has given orders to various agencies, such as the rail, interprovincial bus, and marine authorities, to provide effective services and to further increase their safety procedures.
He stated that part of the strategy to boost tourism and the economy is the implementation of the visa-free policy for visitors from Taiwan and India, which will run from Friday until May 10.
Previously, the government decided to exclude visitors from Kazakhstani and Chinese visa requirements. The policy will expire on February 29.
The administration estimates that a total of 1.55 million Indians will make visits to the kingdom this year and that approximately 700,000 visitors from Taiwan will also likely make an appearance.
An average Indian visitor is expected to remain in the nation for 7-8 days and spend 41,000 baht per trip.
It is anticipated that Taiwanese tourists will spend 42,900 baht apiece, or 5,200 baht daily on average.
From October 30 to November 5, 557,554 foreign visitors entered Thailand, according to the Tourism and Sports Ministry.
The majority of tourists were from Malaysia, with 73,297, then came Chinese visitors with 67,443 and Russian visitors with 39,136.
Over 22.61 million foreign visitors have come to Thailand since January 1, bringing in approximately 954.23 billion baht in tourism-related income.
