Abandoned Rental Car Leads Police to Massive Drug Bust in Pathum Thani

A routine car rental dispute in Pathum Thani has uncovered a major drug operation, with police seizing over 100 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine (Ice) from an abandoned vehicle on January 31.

The discovery was made after a rental company reported a missing Toyota Vios, which had not been returned by a customer. Police Colonel Kiattisak Mitprasat of Khlong Luang Police Station received the report and, along with Police Major General Yuthana Jonkhun and other officers, located the vehicle in Soi Boonthaworn, Khlong Nueng district. The car, with license plate ฌอ 2306 Bangkok, was found with its trunk open, revealing two large black sacks filled with suspected drugs.

Jaruwan, a 41-year-old relative of the car rental business owner, explained that the car had been rented from Bueng Kan between January 26 and January 29 but was never returned. GPS tracking showed it was last active on January 30 at a location on Phahonyothin Road. A technician sent to investigate found the keys inside and later discovered the car had remained untouched until the following day. When Jaruwan retrieved the vehicle, she found suspicious black bags in the trunk and, upon inspecting them, discovered white powder, prompting an immediate call to the police.

Authorities are now analyzing CCTV footage to track the driver and the individual who signed the rental agreement. The drugs are undergoing forensic examination as the investigation continues to identify and apprehend those responsible.
