Sepak Takraw Dispute Turns Violent in Pattaya, Leaving Two Injured
A dispute over a sepak takraw ball hitting a neighbor’s roof escalated into a violent altercation in Pattaya, leaving two men injured with knife wounds.
The Sawang Boriboon Rescue Center received a report of the incident at 11:06 PM on March 19 and promptly dispatched rescue volunteers and police officers to the scene at a residence in Soi Nong Krabok 5.
Upon arrival, authorities found two injured individuals. The first, 40-year-old Mr. Sathaporn, had sustained a knife wound to his left hand, a cut on his neck, and swelling on his head from being struck with a hard object. The second, 35-year-old Mr. Noraphat, suffered a wound to his right arm from a sharp object. Rescue workers provided first aid before transporting both men to the hospital. Meanwhile, police recovered a knife sheath and broken glass fragments behind the house.
According to Mr. Sathaporn, his neighbor, who rents the house across the street, frequently played sepak takraw, with the ball often landing on his roof. Although he ignored it in the past, tensions escalated when the neighbors allegedly threw a bottle onto his roof. When he confronted them, a heated argument ensued, culminating in an attack with a knife and a metal baton.
However, the suspect, whose identity was not disclosed, insisted that they were also assaulted. They claimed the ball had accidentally hit the roof and that they had attempted to apologize, but Mr. Sathaporn refused to listen and initiated physical aggression. This prompted family members to intervene, leading to injuries on both sides.
Police have advised both parties to receive medical treatment before reporting to the Nongprue Police Station for further questioning.
