Drug-Influenced Man Kills One, Injures Another in Chaiyaphum Attack
Violent Assault Leaves Grandfather Dead, Child Injured
CHAIYAPHUM, Thailand – A 26-year-old man, reportedly under the influence of drugs, attacked his neighbors in Chaiyaphum province, resulting in the death of a 67-year-old man and serious injuries to his 11-year-old grandson. The suspect fled the scene but was later apprehended at a nearby temple, where he confessed to the crime.
Incident Unfolds in Nong Bua Daeng District
Police Lieutenant Witoon Phaphong-ngarm of the Nong Bua Daeng District Police Station received a report of the assault on March 16 in Ban Nong Ben, Moo 6, Nong Bua Daeng subdistrict. Upon arrival, emergency responders found 11-year-old Tawan suffering from knife wounds. He received first aid before being rushed to the hospital. Meanwhile, his grandfather, Puk, was found dead at the scene.
Suspect’s History of Erratic Behavior
Residents of Baan Non Sa-at reported that the suspect, identified as Tawit, had a history of erratic and violent behavior, often assaulting neighbors. Earlier that day, he had approached the victims’ home in search of a friend. Upon finding Tawan asleep, he attacked the boy with a knife.
Puk witnessed the attack and attempted to intervene, but the suspect repeatedly assaulted him. Puk tried to escape on a motorized tricycle but was pursued and fatally attacked by Tawit.
Manhunt and Arrest at Temple
Following the brutal assault, Pol. Lt. Witoon and his team launched a search for the suspect. Tawit was eventually found at Wat Tao Yai, approximately three kilometers from the crime scene. When apprehended, he had laid down his weapon, removed his shirt, and admitted to the attack.
A search of the suspect led to the discovery of 20 methamphetamine pills. Tawit, who was still exhibiting signs of drug intoxication, was taken into custody. Authorities will proceed with further questioning once his condition stabilizes, and he is expected to participate in a crime reenactment.
