Police and rescuers were called to Pattaya’s Wong Amat Beach early this morning (Nov. 22) after the body of a foreign man, adorned with gold jewelry, was found washed ashore, according to TV Channel 7.
Mrs. Praew Phinyoying, 83, reported that around 6 a.m., a fisherman informed her about a dead body discovered about 30 meters from the shore. She immediately contacted the authorities.
Upon arriving at the scene in Soi Wong Amat Tower, police noticed a crowd of local onlookers. They quickly cordoned off the area for investigation.
The deceased man, believed to be a tourist, appeared to be in his 40s or 50s, approximately 170-180 cm tall, and was wearing black pants but no shirt. He had a high crew cut hairstyle and had been dead for about eight hours.
A further examination revealed that he had an iPhone 5 in his pants pocket and was wearing a gold watch on his left wrist, along with a gold necklace and a gold ring on his left finger. No identification papers were found on him, and his body was taken to Bang Lamung Hospital for his relatives to collect for a funeral.
Local regulars, who often exercise at the beach, did not recognize the man. Police suspect that he may have come to the beach to exercise, but a sudden health issue, possibly a chronic illness, may have caused his death, as there were no signs of foul play. Although there were some abrasions on his feet and body, they were likely the result of contact with rocks.
