In a dominant display at the Gelora 10 November Stadium in Surabaya, Indonesia, Thailand delivered a resounding 6-0 defeat to Brunei in the Asean Boys’ U19 Championship.
From the opening whistle, Thailand took control. Pakawat Taengoakson opened the scoring in the seventh minute, setting the tone for the match. Paripan Wongsa doubled the lead in the 27th minute, with Caelan Ryan adding a third just before halftime.
Pikanet Laohawiwat scored Thailand’s fourth goal during injury time in the first half. Despite easing off in the second half, Thailand continued their offensive, with Pitipong Wongbut scoring in the 78th minute to make it 5-0. Ratthaphum Phankhechon rounded off the scoring in the final added minutes.
With the victory, Thailand secured three points and set their sights on their final preliminary match against Malaysia on Thursday.
Pereira’s Strategy
Thailand’s youth coach, Emerson Pereira, opted to rest key players, some of whom had minor injuries from their previous match against Singapore. Pereira emphasized a match-by-match approach, acknowledging the challenge Malaysia will pose.
“Malaysia is a strong team with threats on both wings,” Pereira noted. “But I have full confidence in my players to rise to the occasion.”
Thailand’s previous match saw them rally from behind to secure a 2-1 win over Singapore, demonstrating their resilience and determination as they head into their crucial game against Malaysia.
