After the arrest of suspects involved in the abduction and extortion of a British cryptocurrency trader in Phra Khanong, Deputy Commissioner Pol. Maj. Gen. Panthana Nuch-cha-nart shared details of the case at the Immigration Bureau office in Muang Thong Thani.
On Tuesday, he reported that the British trader was lured, bound, and violently assaulted before having luxury watches, credit cards, and cash stolen, totaling over 3 million baht on July 12.
Pol. Maj. Gen. Panthana noted that the Immigration Department collaborated with Khlong Tan police to apprehend the suspects in the parking lot of the IP Plus Pool Villa Hotel in Pattaya, Chonburi. The suspects include Mr. Abdullahi Ahmed Saney Mohamed from Denmark, Mr. Ahmed Saeed Yasin and Mr. Hussein Mohamed Hassan Sheekh from Britain, as well as Ms. Samya, who attempted to flee to India. One suspect remains at large, but their identity is known, and efforts are being made to update the arrest warrant and pursue legal action.
During the arrest, authorities discovered that Ms. Samya had attempted to leave Thailand for New Delhi, India. A search of her luggage revealed 25 kg of cannabis flowers in vacuum-sealed bags, resulting in charges of attempting to export controlled substances and goods not cleared by customs.
At 9:00 a.m. on Monday, Khlong Tan police escorted three male suspects to the South Bangkok Criminal Court, where they objected to bail. The suspects face seven charges, including armed robbery, assault, intimidation with weapons, deprivation of liberty, extortion with weapons, theft of documents, and unlawful carrying of weapons in public.
