On July 29, Pattaya’s Tourist Police performed a comprehensive inspection of tour firms and tourist guides near Bali Hai Pier in South Pattaya to defend the integrity of the tourism industry and the livelihoods of Thai citizens. The decision was made in response to growing worries about unauthorized guides operating in the area.
The inspection came after a significant meeting between the Tourism Police and members of Thailand’s Professional Tourist Guide Association, chaired by President Wassapol Attapornthanaset. During the discussion, the growing issue of illegal guides was thoroughly discussed, emphasizing the importance of reinforcing tourist trust and confidence.
The examination focused on verifying the legality of tourist guide licenses, ensuring that only competent Thai citizens led excursions. The police confirmed that all tourist guides investigated had valid licenses and authorization paperwork and were fully compliant with the Tourism Business and Guide Act.
Thailand’s tourism industry is exclusively reserved for Thai citizens, making foreigners strictly barred. Infringers will face fines under the Immigration Act, which governs foreign employment management.
