Thaksin Shinawatra, the exiled former prime minister, has once more delayed his trip back to Thailand, this time because he wants to observe the results of the election for prime minister.
Thaksin announced last month that his 17-year exile would come to an end this month because he wanted to care for his grandkids and was prepared to serve the 10-year term he had been evading.
But yesterday (Wednesday), Paetongtarn, his youngest child, claimed that she had just spoken to her father and that he had changed his mind. “His homecoming will be postponed, but it is still anticipated. Not this month,” the woman said.
The delay appears to be due to Thaksin’s desire to avoid connecting his comeback to the current political climate.
. However, a lot of people already think his comeback is political. He doesn’t want to return and cause additional disturbance during a period of political unrest. It is not possible that, as was previously claimed, he will return in July. He wants to wait until the results of the prime ministerial election, according to Paetongtarn.
When asked if her father would come back when the new administration took office, she replied that he would wait until the political climate had subsided. Throughout his exile, Thaksin has stated his desire to return home 19 times.
