Singaporean tourist dies, four others injured in road accident in Phuket

A Singaporean tourist was killed and four others were injured when their car crashed into a micro bus on a steep road in Muang district of Phuket late last night (Friday).

Pol Cpt Charnnarong Prakopngkua, deputy inspector of Karon police station, said that there were five Singaporeans, two men and three women, in the Toyota Yaris which crashed into driver’s side of the micro bus, driven by Anirut Chomcherd accompanied by a South Korean guide and an interpreter.

Rescue workers had to use hydraulic equipment to cut through the damaged car to extract all the occupants before they were taken to the nearest hospital.

The driver of the Toyota Yaris, 21-year-old Ho Jia Hui Renee, suffered serious injuries and died after she was rushed to a hospital in Phuket.

Police initially believe that the Singaporean driver might not have been familiar with the steep road, but they will check CCTV at the scene of the accident to find establish cause of the accident.

Police said that the micro bus was heading towards Chalong sub-district, after having dropped a group of tourists at their hotels in Patong sub-district, Krathu district, adding that the road at the scene of the accident is steep and has a sharp curve.

The Toyota was heading in the opposite direction, toward Karons sub-district, and it skidded at the curve in the road and crashed into the bus.
