Five villagers rescued after getting lost in Kalasin forest

Five villagers, who got lost while gathering mushrooms in Kalasin’s Phu Phan mountains were rescued by forestry officials on Wednesday night.

The five were among eight residents of Ban Dong Klang village in Tambon Dong Somboon in Kalasin’s Tha Khantho district, who went into forest near Channel 5’s relay station at noon on Wednesday.

They arranged to meet the three others at a pre-selected spot so they could return together but lost their way. Fortunately, they were able to make contact with their friends by mobile phone.

The three other villagers sought help from the Tad Tone police station, which in turn informed the Phu Phan National Park office.

The office dispatched a team of forestry officials to help locate the five villagers. The officials spent about 45 minutes searching and found the missing villagers north of the spot where they were supposed to meet their friends. They were sitting around a small fire, exhausted and frightened.

Officials said it was the third time this week that villagers had got lost in the forest after collecting wild mushrooms.
