15-year-old student rescued from jumping off pedestrian bridge in Pattaya area

pedestrian bridge

A 15 year old male student has been rescued after trying to jump from a pedestrian bridge in Nongprue this afternoon.

Emergency responders were notified of the incident at 5:00 PM at a pedestrian bridge in Soi Nern Plub Wan.

Police, emergency responders and The Pattaya News arrived at the scene to find a 15 year old male student who was in a student uniform on the outside of the pedestrian bridge guardrail.

He was crying during the entire experience. He was only using one hand to hold onto the guardrail.

It took about 15 minutes for police and emergency responders to talk to and help the boy back inside the safety of the covered bridge. He was taken to a local hospital for a full psychiatric evaluation.

Police said that he is the same boy who tried to jump from a pedestrian bridge on Sukhumvit Road in Sattahip after a baht bus driver had reportedly not given any change (ten baht) when he paid for the fee last week with a twenty baht bill. The boy was so depressed over the incident he had attempted to jump, according to police. They are unaware what prompted the repeat incident today as he was too emotional to answer questions.

According to the police, the boy has multiple family related issues and suffers from chronic depression. He also takes multiple medications for his condition.
