Thai people demanding election by next year

Thai people demanding election by next year

A recent survey that was carried out suggests that most people are hoping for an election to be held by September 2018 at the very latest.

A majority of people want the next election to be held in not later than September next year and the Democrat Party is for the time-being their favourite, according to the result of an opinion survey by the Super Poll research centre.

The survey was conducted between Sept 5-16 on 1,480 people to gauge their opinions on Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha’s visit to the United States and on the next general election.

On Gen Prayut’s visit to the US, scheduled for October, a majority, or 75.4%, of the respondents said they did not know about it. Only 24.6% said they did.

Most of the respondents, 65.6%, supported the visit, while 34.4% disagreed.

Asked what they expected from the prime minister’s US visit, 56.8% of the respondents mentioned promotion of trade and investments; 48.8% cooperation in the field of education; 31.4% the people’s security; 31.4% labour protection and welfares; and 29.1% solutions to human-trafficking problems.

Asked when they thought should be the right time for the next elelction, 55.1% said it should come in not later than September next year and 44.9% said it should be held after that.

On political parties they would vote for, 32.6% mentioned the Democrat Party under the leadership of Abhisit Vejjajiva; 27.8% said they would vote for newly-set up medium and small parties; 19.1% said they would vote for the Pheu Thai Party, whose next leader is still uncertain; and 20.5% had no comment or were still uncertain.
