Spending money for Pattaya – How much is enough?

I was recently asked by a friend planning a trip to Pattaya how much spending money he needed for a two week break, and, well, it stumped me.

The truth was I didn’t know what a good rate to ensure he had a good time.

Pattaya is a city of variety so what may be enough for Jack, won’t be enough for John, as they have different plans. If you were planning on playing golf everyday then that is 2,000 baht a day you would need to set aside for starters.

If you want to come here for the nightlife then spending money varies on where you drink. A bottle of beer starts from maybe 40 baht and goes up to 200 baht depending on where you are.

So, the question still remains, for a typical ‘punter in Pattaya’ what is considered enough money to have a good time?

Speaking to a group of guys in Soi Baokhao whom were pretty much here for the nightlife they budgeted around 10,000 baht for their accommodation over a two week stay and 2,500 baht per day spending. This sample, at very least, needed 47,000 baht for their two week vacation (air fare aside).

I still don’t sit comfortably with this figure though, and wouldn’t want to quote it to any would be visitor to Pattaya. You can spend a fortune or you can still spend very, very little. The price range between individuals can be huge, now just for fun, here is an example of how it can be done super cheap and yet still be fun.

If you looked hard enough you could find an air con room for 200 baht per night, that’s fewer than 3,000 baht for the fortnight! You can eat for 100 baht per day from Thai food stalls and have 8 beers a night at 320 baht per day.

That’s 8,880 baht for a fortnight break in Pattaya for the guy that loves a beer, so let’s round it up to 10,000 baht – for toothpaste, soap etc – and it’s still looking low.

This article is designed just to be playful but it does illustrate how Pattaya can still very much cater for all budgets, you only have to look at the Hilton, Ocean Marina and the likes to recognize the city can pull in high spenders too.

For the real pat tourist, i would budget at least 5000 baht a day not included hotel accommodation. Regarding the cheap charlies budget, i wouldnt know. But there are enough experienced cheap charlies on this site, so im sure we will very soon be informed

    • realistic ex pat

          • Joe Strummer

Apart from the fact that you are getting ripped off by these monkeys every day and you are too dumb to realize it

          • Ken Anderson

Looking at the above posts, there does appear to be quite a lot that have emanated from the dumb two week millionaire crowd.

How much do you spend per day in Derbyshire and what kind of fun can you have for that money?

          • Ken Anderson

I spend very little, and have a great time thank you very much. Beer is cheaper than in Pattaya. Also I eat only farm fresh food.
Now in Pattaya very little is farm fresh, on my occasional visits into the cesspit, all I ever see is bad mannered, washed out, grumpy old hag’s.

          • Guest

I come from continental Europe so English food (farm fresh or not) is not something I would consider a treat, I mean your vegetables are always either not enough cooked or overcooked, your steaks overcooked, you cannot see a fish without thinking deep fried. I think that, being a native you have good in Derbyshire meeting with friends and family but what can a tourist do there that would justify the trip?

          • Ken Anderson

You can keep your continental Europe with all your left leaning corrupt leaders. Fortunately we are well out of that in the not too distant future. Even the wasteland can have a much more attractive and competent female leader than you can. Just look at the self appointed queen of Europe, Frau Merkel. All she is lacking is an idiotic black moustache and a swastika on her forehead then Germany will have regressed around 70 years.
Here in North Derbyshire we neither need or want your left leaning nonsense, incessant interference and petty regulations.

          • Guest

Your Mayjesty is a great leader… everybody knows that.
You did not answer the original question though, which was: what can one do for fun in Derbyshire?

          • Ken Anderson

Hunting, fishing, drinking fine ales with gentlemen and playing with sheep farmers daughters.

          • Guest

“Hunting, fishing” you can do that wherever you want in Europe and do it under the sun instead of English rain…
“drinking fine ales with gentlemen” sounds to me like: getting drunk with old bags whining about how things were better back in the days all night long (or until the pub’s closing time which I guess is around 23h).

          • Robert

If that is the case, then why are you and the others, who always complain like Ken, continually visiting Thailand? Doesn’t make sense. Well it does, if the only things in life you find enjoyable is to complain about every thing. Even then, why spend your money going to someplace you hate so much?

          • Guest

“I do not really understand peoples hatred for the Thai people” because when you think of it it does not make sense at all. What beats me is why do those people who spend their time badmouthing Thai people and Thailand do stay/keep on coming in Thailand.

  • ken

Everyone has their own budget but the one expense many people fail to factor in is the tea money for these bent cops. That expense should be the first item to take into consideration and everything else is secondary because the probability is high that you will need to pay them or have your life ruin in this wasteland.

    • Martin Klauser

I’m prepared to pay 400 now and then when waved down , it’s unavoidable when holidaying in Pattaya. In Krabi they say hello and smile and want take selfie with you 😀

      • amazingthailand

Nothing to enjoy inkrabi for stourist

        • Martin Klauser

WoW one of the most beautiful islands (Koh Hong etc )

      • Sly

Once in 10 years and I was guilty as hell so can’t complain.

    • pompeypaul

I’ve been in Thailand for 12 years and have never had to pay any tea money to the cops so I can only assume that you indulge in illegal perverted activities Ken.

      • The Groover

Well, it’s probably your own willingness to accommodate the cops’ perverted activities that have saved you the money. You obviously like to ‘pay in kind’.

  • Charles Baht Esquire.

10000 Baht a day plus 3000 a day accommodation unless you are a cheap charlie.

    • amazingthailand

      16000 baht minimum my friend

    • Charles Baht Esquire.

you must be some poor pom looks aimlessly into the sky after each cheap charlie chang beer and get ripped off in every move you do in Pattaya

      • Joe Strummer

Now that you can’t sleep on the beach anymore you better budget an extra 20 baht per day for accommodation in the local dosshouse.

        • Charles Baht Esquire.

Unlike you meat head old drunkard Poms blowing your measly pension in the back street cheap charlie Chang beer bars then living in your view Talay rat rooms scrounging cigarette butts off the ground in front of 7-11 after you bought your prized only meal for the day 22 baht 7-11 hotdog we’ve all witenessed you old spew stained desperado Poms in action before .

  • sevron

10000 baht per day minimum. MINIMUM.

Pattaya is not cheap at all.

    • soidog

Not when the value of my GBP has nearly halved in ten years and the prices doubled.

      • Guest

And with the Brexit you guys called for, the value of your GBP is not likely to go up anytime soon, making it even easier for the Emiratis and Qataris to buy whatever they want in the UK.

  • Frank Baresi

10000b (+??? for a JP Bar skip rat) for a hardcore night down Walking Street,
Know others who’ve done a lot more.

  • pattaya_bob

    30,000 Baht a day minimum…

    • Sly

I’ve managed 25K on day but that was too much ‘hard’ work.

  • Ken Anderson

Spending in Pattaya will vary dramatically from one tourist to another. The main factor this is almost exclusively dependent on is the rice farmers daughters. Steer well clear of these toxic women and you can have an enjoyable and inexpensive time in Pattaya.
That is of course if you do not get mugged by some Thai man in a frock, or a Thai man in a brown uniform.

    • weasel

what is the point of coming to pattaya without trying out the RFD’s?oh yes, the prestine waters and golden sandy beaches.

      • Ken Anderson

Of course you need to try out a rice farmers daughter. But what you need to do is make your selection with care and consideration. Unlike all of those very foolish two week millionaires.

        • Lasse3

You don’t seem to have been lucky with the selection. You seem to have been “burned” for life with a RFD.

  • weasel

40 bt a beer? where, tell me! tell me!

    • Lasse3

Maybe at the same places where there are air con rooms for 200 bt.

      • Lasse3

0r at 7/11 and you sit on the pavement and drink.

  • Lasse3

For those who haven’t seen dancing ladies before it can be expensive, otherwise it depends on how many times you go to a restaurant or a bar and have you done that several 100 times before maybe you can cut down substantially on that and it becomes very cheap. Maybe you only want to cure your winter depression.

  • soidog

As I like to get married at least once on each trip buying ,then losing, a house then the sinsod ,buffalo and motorbike repairs and so forth, I feel that my expenditure is about level with all the other fools.

  • Bahtbus

Not including hotel, I usually budget for 3000 – 5000 per day. As noted, If I stayed longer than my usual 10-days, it would likely be far less. To each his own, really. If Pattaya really had a beach that was worth going to…….oh, never mind about that dilemma.
